A movie blog by a movie nerd.

Denisa Duca's my name, film trivia's my game.

Beyond the Hills. I have to share this for my Romanian pride. The movie is based around a “strictly Orthodox religious compound” in the country, and although I’m not familiar with that type of environment I trust that this will be an interesting film based on director Cristian Mungiu’s past work. Four Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days was an accurate portrayal of what life was like in the country in the late 80s. Mungiu’s films are educational and important for Romanian history, so I urge you to at least check out the trailer.

Da Vinci’s Demons. Starz is premiering a show about Leonardo Da Vinci with a fantasy twist, very sci-fiy. I’m not so sure how this show will do but I can see fans of shows like The Borgias, The Tudors, and Spartacus adding this to their DVR list. The trailer looks promising if you’re into all the premium channels’ original series.

Welcome to the Punch. Starring a few familiar faces, including James McAvoy, Mark Strong who added some punch in the Zero Dark Thirty cameo, and The Governor from The Walking Dead David Morrissey. Check out the trailer.

OOOLALA. How many years in the making and waiting has it been? Sin City 2! First one came out in 2005, and now this year we’ll finally get the sequel. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has now cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt so rest assured it will be awesome. He’s been making some good decisions, even though the Guardians of the Galaxy turn down can be debated, but Looper was amazing. And we will see how he does behind the scenes with Don Jon’s Addiction which he directed.

  • The poster for Spielberg’s Lincoln was released on Wednesday and I already saw a billboard in LA for it. I have to mention how ridiculously amazing it is that Mr. Daniel Day-Lewis himself looks exactly like Abraham Lincoln. This will be a movie that they’ll play in History classes in high school years from now. So take a moment and marvel at the Day-Lewis and Spielberg collaboration which follows Lincoln’s later years. The movie comes out in November.

  • Everyone was talking about this video this week and I finally checked it out. I am still trying to start conversations about how awesome The Dark Knight Rises was, especially the ending. So the fact that the wonderful people at HISHE made a “How It Should Have Ended” video only adds to my joy. We will all be debating Batman’s need of a lozenge, the “worst death ever”, and of course Bane’s voice for a long time to come. Check out the hilarious video and subscribe to HISHEdotcom on YouTube because they work hard for our amusement.
  • And of course there’s this story. I have been a fan of Eli Roth for years and respect and awe at everything he’s done and accomplished. I remember seeing the “fake” Thanksgiving trailer and being horrified and laughing at the same time. Never did I think that it could be a full-length film (it’s a gruesome story when you really think about it) but now Roth himself said there are talks about making it. In addition to that, horror fans will be delighted when The Goretorium opens at the end of September. What’s the Goretorium? Only the scariest thing to happen to the Las Vegas strip. Watch the trailer at your own discretion.

The Man with the Iron Fists. One word to describe this - WOAH! I’ve been waiting to see footage of this film since Eli Roth first tweeted that he was going to be a part of it. The fact that he co-wrote it with RZA makes me squeal like a little girl. I’ve been a fan of Roth’s for years and completely respect him and his work. Plus Tarantino is a part of this so they can’t go wrong. This is RZA’s first film that he stars in and directed, totally separating himself from his rap persona. I think it’s amazing that he has this great idea for a kung-fu movie and he made it into something that looks like a teenage boy’s heaven. Even though I’m not a teenage boy, I can’t wait to see this. The action is in your face and Russel Crowe is in this looking ready to kick some ass. So check out the trailer and congratulations to RZA for making a movie Tarantino can get behind :).

The best show on television is baaaack! Breaking Bad. Three more weeks until we delve right back into Walt’s crazy life. I got really excited when I saw that fan-made trailer which had a recap of all past 4 seasons, and then the marathons on AMC, and the photos of the season premiere, but now I can’t wait to see what will happen this season. It’s going to get intense. See you all there on Sunday, July 15 at 10.

Alex Cross. First of all, Matthew Fox live we’ve never seen him before. He looks absolutely ripped, channeling like an Adam Levine-type with the tattoos. And Tyler Perry looking like Tyler Perry, not like Madea for once. I hope we see more of him like this, tough and masculine. So there’s two transformations that will definitely make this movie sell. This movie is based on the books about the same character. The trailer looks awesome, very testosterone filled. But I will say that it seems a bit typical that he’s planning on leaving, “one day from retirement”, wanting to get out of town, when all of a sudden something crazy happens and he’s forced to stay and solve the crime, save his family, kill the bad guy, etc. Should be an interesting movie either way.

Here it is. The full Django Unchained trailer. And he is “off the chain”. You know, because he breaks free from his chains. Get it? Well anyway, check this trailer out. Make me want to see more footage, spoilers or not, I will see this movie no matter what.

Tuesday News Stories

More on this tomorrow, but how cool. I’m loving seeing DiCaprio acting in the Tarantino-esque style. Reminds me a lot of Brad Pitt’s serious but funny character in Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino has a way, that’s all his, and you can tell it’s his from miles away. And I’m sure him and DiCaprio will have a connection after this.
Justice League movie YAY. This could finally be the chance for Wonder Woman to be rebooted (after the NBC TV pilot failed). I love Marvel characters but come on this is Superman and Batman we’re talking about here. This will be an awesome way to bring back both of those guys. We (my generation) are practically obsessed with Batman and we’re used to seeing him in Christian Bale form so let’s find someone younger and even better than him! And yes yes next year’s Superman movie will be exciting (at least I hope it will be) with Henry Cavill, which could actually be used in the Justice League. But put them all together and make even the Green Lantern look good and interesting!
And then…I read that they’re going to be making a Flash and Wonder Woman movie before they make Justice League - well then hopefully it won’t feel repetitive by the time we get to the group film.
